From Street Rescues to Loving Pet Care 🐕

Moikka! Olen Koushik ja eläimet ovat olleet iso osa elämääni pienestä pitäen. I grew up in a suburb in Bangladesh where stray cats and dogs were everywhere. Most people ignored them, but for me, they became family. I made my home theirs, giving them shelter, food, and care. One paralyzed kitten stayed with me through months of rain and winter cold. He had a bent spine and was severely malnourished. We fought through cat flu outbreaks, infections, and harsh weather, all without access to vet clinics nearby. I lost a few dear ones to illness, but I kept going. I even arranged private vaccinations and hired help when I could, just to give them a better chance. The paralyzed kitten? After long nights of nursing and carrying him to the city for vet care, he slowly regained strength. One day, he started walking. I eventually found him a new home through a rescue group. That moment still brings tears to my eyes. I was deeply involved with animal rescue work during my bachelor studies in Dhaka. I volunteered with groups like Care for Paws and Paw Life Care, rescuing abandoned animals, getting them vaccinated, and fostering them until adoption. Sometimes they stayed in my small apartment while I searched for loving homes through social media. I also helped spay and neuter many of them to prevent suffering in the long run. Now that I’m in Turku for my master’s in Food Development, I miss that connection with animals. Compared to that chaotic and difficult environment, taking care of pets in Finland feels peaceful and easy. People are kind, animals are respected, and I know I can build a bond with them quickly.
